Shetland’s Space Race

The space race has taken a step further to being finalised within the UK. Shetland is hoping to place a bid which will allow the island to launch satellites from a permanent base on Shetland.

More Scottish travel news : car hire from Aberdeen Airport and Prestwick Airport is available from Bluewheels along with car hire from Shetland Isles.

Unst in Scotland is the furthest island North of the country. The community is hoping to place a bid next year to become part of the Space Agency of the United Kingdom.

Glasgow has become the central point for most of the industry which is said to be able to employ more than 7,000 people and in the latest value – £130 million pounds.

Unst would make a terrific base as the launches will not be flying over towns, cities, villages or oil rigs.

We wish them success in their bid.
