Luton Airport is one of the few airports in the world to be recognised for its airport energy saving initiatives.

The British Standards Institute awarded Luton Airport with the Energy Management Standard which is an international
recognition.

The airport used energy saving initiatives which included the use
of PIR motion sensors and LED lighting. This has reduced the
carbon tonnage by 342 tCO2 in the last year according to
British Standards Institute.

All this was achieved whilst the airport posted a passenger
growth record and refurbishment of the airport as part of the
development project costing £100 million.

This is the third time Luton Airport has achieved the international
standard in the last two years.

Airport spokesperson Simon Brown stated these awards have
taken years of dedicated work.

He went on to say that they will continue work to make further
reductions on the impact the airport has on the environment.
