The Killarney National Park was notified of the rescue mission which could not be carried due to the density of the flower. At least 8000 acres of the park are covered in the flower which has is invasive to the park.
The tourists could not find their way to any entrance to leave the park and called for a rescue when they found themselves in difficulty. Mountain rescuers guided them to the shores of Lough Leane where they were picked up as the forest was densely populated with the plants making a rescue impossible from their position deep in the forest.
