Each driver requires to bring along a piece of Identification with them when renting a car or van in the UK and overseas.

The main driver will receive a confirmation voucher by email outling the various terms which different car hire firms use to collect a vehicle.

In general drivers need to produce their original and current driving license. New style licenses require photo and paper parts, old style paper licences are still valid at present.

New instructions from the DVLA now require drivers to sign in and present a code to the car hire firms which can be found on the DVLA’s website. This code is needed when checking driver’s license for any convictions.

Additional drivers also need to produce ID similar to a passport or written forms of UK home address which will be outlined in the voucher. Always double check with the branch before setting out to pick up the car.
