Don’t Be afraid of driving here though as you can pick up your car hire UK from Scotland‘s branches.
In fact since 1967 there have been a lot more than 4000 recorded earthquakes in the country.
Almost half of this amount has been recorded on the East coast area including the capital Edinburgh and also along the west coast of Scotland.
In Edinburgh a seismometer has been recording them from the Royal Observatory within a distance of 19 miles.
Not as large as say Japan’s quakes, Scotland sits on the middles of the plates but still receives its fair share of them.
New techniques allow the Observatory staff to monitor and plot the quakes and try and predict a pattern.
